The Good Fight
Living in this world is like living in a battlefield. It might appear calm and safe sometimes, but the underlying spiritual reality is anything but. The war entered the world in the Garden of Eden, at the beginning when the first man and woman sinned. And the war has been going on ever since.
This ancient war is a battle between good and evil: between God, the Creator and Author of the world, and His adversary, the evil one. The important questions for each of us are these: Which side are we on? What are we fighting for? How do we fight the good fight?
Our theme for fall 2026 comes from the book of 1 Timothy in chapter 6:
But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. (v. 11-12, emphasis mine)
Kicking off this year, we will consider four idols and why their promises are so compelling:
Money promises security.
Pleasure promises happiness.
Honor promises value.
Power promises control.
Yet each one ultimately fails to satisfy. Together, we will consider how Christ meets the desires beneath these idols and calls us to fight the good fight.
