What does a team leader do?
A sports camp team leader leads a small team of elementary- or pre-school kids. He or she will welcome the kids on their team to Sports Camp each day, sits with them during the large-group assemblies, take them to their sports activities with the “Head Coaches,” cheer them on during their skills practice, takes them to the snack station, etc. (If you’re familiar with “Crew Leaders” at Staycation, Team Leaders are very similar.)
Do team leaders get to have spiritual input into the kids’ lives?
Yes! Besides just showing them God’s love, there is a 10-minute “Team Time” every day, where you get to sit down with your team and discuss the Bible lesson from that day. We’ll train you how to do that, and provide you questions to discuss with your team.
What if I’m not athletic? Should I really be a team leader?
Yes, the Head Coaches will teach the necessary skills, your job is to build relationships with the kids on your team and help them practice what the Head Coaches are teaching. No natural athletic talent required!
Will I have to attend a bunch of training meetings at church?
No, just one meeting. We will have one training session on July 30th, from 1:30 – 2:30 pm (right after the welcome picnic for Pastor Mike). We’ll show you everything you need to know and answer all your questions, and you’ll get to meet the team from Base Sports and pick up your camp t-shirts at this time.
When is Sports Camp?
It’s Monday through Friday, July 31st – Aug 4th, 9am-noon each day. We’ll meet as a team at 8:30 and be ready to go at 8:45 when kids start being dropped off.
Will I really be making a difference?
Yes! Not only in the lives of the wonderful kids who attend our church, but in the lives of many kids who don’t have a strong Christian influence in their lives right now. We currently have 50 kids signed up for Sports Camp who don’t attend our church. That’s pretty amazing. I can’t wait to see how many families are impacted by Sports Camp this year!
What if I have more questions that aren’t answered here?
Email me at email@example.com and I’d be happy to talk with you.
How do I sign up?
Just email the following information to me at firstname.lastname@example.org:
- I’d like to work with preschool kids, elementary kids, or either one.
- If elementary kids, I’d like to work with kids learning basketball, soccer, cheer, or any is fine.
- My t-shirt size for the Camp T-shirt is S, M, L, XL, or XXL. (Don’t worry if you guess wrong, you can exchange it at the training for the correct size.)
Thanks for volunteering!
