Northwest Hills Family,

Thank you for continuing to pray with us and engaging in the senior pastor search process. We are excited to announce that we have a candidate to introduce to you on the weekend of May 12-15. Many of you are aware that a few weeks ago the search team traveled to visit this candidate and participated in a worship service at his church. Since then we have brought him here to visit us and he interviewed with both the search team and the elders. We have also completed reference interviews.

The Search Team and Elder Team have done our best to be thorough: getting to know the candidate, listening to one another, and waiting on God. Now we need you as the body to engage in the process by getting to know the candidate and giving us prayerful feedback. We are asking God for affirmation through your feedback. We are one family. We want to move forward with one voice. Here are some opportunities for you to engage in the process.

  • Friday, May 12, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. (@ Worship Center)
Friday evening there will be a Town Hall Q&A that will be moderated by the search team. It will start at 6:30 pm and we hope to wrap up the formal Q&A portion of the evening around 8:00 pm. There will be an informal socializing time afterward. Childcare will not be provided on Friday evening but you are welcome to bring children with you. If you have a question you would like to hear the candidate answer, then please see the email sent to you for instructions. If you do not have access to send in questions electronically you may drop them off in writing at the church office. The search team will review the questions and attempt to prioritize a wide range of questions. The search team will ask a variety of the pre-submitted questions and mix these into open mic questions that those present may ask. We apologize in advance that it may not be possible to cover all of the questions submitted. There will be some time after the formal Q&A to interact with the candidate on an individual basis. The Q&A will be recorded and made available to watch afterward for those unable to attend.

  • Sunday, May 14, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. (@ Worship Center)
The candidate will be preaching in both services Sunday morning.

  • Monday, May 15, 12:00pm - 1:30 pm. (@ D2)
There will be a Brown Bag Lunch on Monday, May 15, from 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm on the church campus in room D2. Lunch is not being provided so bring your own if you would like to eat during this time. The Monday lunch is open to anyone who would like to attend and will be an informal time of conversation with the candidate. You may come and go any time during the lunch.

  • There will be additional meetings happening Friday, May 12, through Monday, May 15, during which the candidate will meet with the staff, elders, and targeted groups of volunteer leaders in our various ministries. Stay tuned for specifics for these times that may apply to you.

If there are any updates to these planned events, the information will be posted on this page and also emailed out. If you do not have access to one of these methods of communication you can also call the church office to get the latest information.

After the candidating visit, the members of Northwest Hills with have the opportunity to give feedback to the elders through a confirmation poll. The purpose of the confirmation poll is to solicit your feedback on the candidate based on the opportunities you have to observe and interact with him. After reviewing the feedback and following up on any questions that are brought up in the confirmation poll responses, the elders will make the decision whether to make an official offer for him to be our next senior pastor. If you are a Northwest Hills member you should receive a confirmation poll in the mail by May 15. The confirmation polls are due back to the church office by Sunday, May 21. You can either mail your confirmation back or drop it off at the church office. If you are not a Northwest Hills member but would like to provide feedback you can email the elders at

At this time we still cannot share specifics about the candidate. We are trying to do everything within our control to minimize the impact upon his current ministry by allowing him to take the steps he feels are best for informing them about his developing relationship with Northwest Hills. As information starts to be shared about who he is we ask that you handle it carefully and not post any specifics on social media or online. If you have children who are on social media please also remind them to not post anything online.

Please continue to pray for the activities of the upcoming candidating visit and the preparations for it. Please continue to pray for our elders and staff and the relationships to develop with this candidate. Please pray for his current congregation that God will preserve and maintain their ministry in this changing season. Finally, please pray for his family as they navigate this process.

Thank you,
Senior Pastor Search Team and Elder Team

April 2017 Update

Recently the Senior Pastor Search Team traveled to meet a candidate and his family. We had an encouraging and productive visit. Please pray for wisdom and discernment as we pursue next steps with this candidate. Pray for the candidate to clearly discern if God is calling him to Northwest Hills.

Additionally, please pray for wisdom for the Search Team as we balance moving forward with this candidate and the impact it will have on our conversations with a couple other candidates for the position.

Your Senior Pastor Search Team,
Mark Curtis, James Furlo, Barb Hoffman, Steve Mock, and Rebekah Schweitzer
