An April Note from Pastor Andy

Our local ministry partner, Love INC (Love in the Name of Christ), has a knack for identifying needs of people in our community, and then finding creative ways to meet those needs. One of Love INC’s latest discoveries was that many of the people in our area who are struggling financially don’t have access or resources to wash their clothes regularly. That, of course, makes it difficult for them to get a job, stay at work, or attend school. Love INC’s solution is Loads of Love, a new ministry to help those folks get to a laundromat and be able to wash and dry their laundry. Reports from those in our congregation who are already assisting in this ministry tell us that it’s very effective, not only in getting clothes laundered, but also in encouraging discouraged people and building relationships in the name of Christ with those who consider themselves to be outside of the mainstream of our community.

That’s an extraordinary ministry, so this April let’s give it a strong boost of support. Our annual Personal Care Supplies Drive for Love INC happens this month, and this year we’re narrowing our donations focus to just a few specific personal care items. But let’s also give donations of U.S. quarters (25 cent coins) that Love INC can use at the laundromat for the Loads of Love ministry. A large bottle for collection of the coins will be available in the Lobby of our Worship Center, and there will also be information there for anyone interested in serving more directly with the individuals and families benefitting from this ministry. The drive starts on Sunday, April 7, and ends on Sunday, April 28. Read more about the drive in this newsletter or stop by the Supply Drive table in the Lobby on Sundays for more details.

Don’t forget that this is also the month for Refuel, our third all-family event of this 2012-2013 ministry year. It happens on Sunday evening, April 28, and it’s all about spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert, singing, giving thanks, praying and praising God together with many others in our Northwest Hills family. If you’re able, sign up early this month to contribute to the meal, but whether or not that works for you, bring everybody of all ages from your family, and let’s meet, greet, eat and worship together at this special gathering of God’s household at Northwest Hills. I hope to see you there!
