A February Note from Pastor Andy

This month we will host a special wedding reception for a couple who were recently married in a faraway place, in ceremonies that took three days to complete and that included a grand exchange of cows (yes cows, not just vows), all of which was a prelude to their honeymoon climb of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak on the African continent (19,341 feet).

Yes, of course, that could only be the wedding of, and reception for, our long-time missionary to Uganda, Dr. Val Shean, and her new husband, Waffle, an Oregonian who is also now Val’s (and our congregation’s) new missionary partner!

You all are invited to this one and only mid-valley reception on Sunday, February 24, in our Worship Center. Presentations and telling of wedding stories will begin at 3:00 p.m., followed by a more casual time of greetings and snacks that will end about 6:00 p.m. Drop in whenever you like to enjoy the fun, to give thanks to God, and to bless Waffle and Val as they begin their marriage and their ministry together as husband and wife.

Let’s also celebrate, thank, and bless two other global outreach servants this month, Bryan Hoffman and Steve Binney. As was announced at the end of January, Bryan, who has led our GO (Global Outreach) ministry since 2009, recently stepped aside as GO Team leader. During his leadership tenure, Bryan did a spectacular job strengthening, building, and expanding our GO ministry, and we are very grateful for his passionate, insightful, and visionary leadership. As Bryan now moves on to other ministries of our church, long-time Northwest Hills member, Steve Binney, is stepping in to lead the Go Team for year 2013. Steve is a veteran of many ministries at Northwest Hills, and has been a key leader on the GO Team during Bryan’s term of service. We greatly appreciate Steve’s willingness to keep the GO Team going at full speed during this period of transition. Be sure to express your thanks to, and pray for, both Bryan and Steve as they take up their new roles in our congregation.
